Technological advances and patented inventions.
A brand acknowledged by generations of electricians and electronic engineers which has become the generic term for a multimeter in France, Metrix® is the Chauvin Arnoux Group's flagship brand for its multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies and generators. The engineering department and Research and Development teams are based on the site at Annecy-le-Vieux (France) while benefiting from the high-performance industrialization tools on the Group's production sites in Normandy.
Metrix: from the lampmeter, the electro-clamp and oscilloscopes to “the Metrix”
In 1936, a small company called CARTEX was founded. This company enjoyed considerable growth during the years of economic expansion following the Second World War. Its main business was manufacturing portable “lampmeters” for checking the valves used in the radioelectricity sector, which was growing fast at the time. With the rising demand for electrical and electronic measurement equipment, CARTEX quickly became a major player in this sector, with products such as the lampmeter, testers and frequency generators. In 1946, it changed its name to “Compagnie Générale de Métrologie” (General Metrology Company) and began marketing its products under the Metrix® brand. The launch of the “electro-clamp”, allowing users to check voltages without disconnecting and measure high currents with one hand, and the production of oscilloscopes from 1948 onwards helped to quickly expand the company’s offering. However, the products that really made the brand’s reputation were the MX 460, launched in 1950, and more particularly, the MX 462 multimeter, which was so successful that “Metrix®” became the generic name for multimeters in France, enabling the company to grow very quickly.
The Chauvin Arnoux Group
The Chauvin Arnoux industrial group is a worldwide player on the measurement market with all-round expertise in the measurement of electrical and physical quantities.
In 1893, Raphael CHAUVIN and René ARNOUX came together to found Chauvin Arnoux. 120 years later, the adventure continues and the company is now an expert in the measurement of electrical and physical quantities in the industrial and tertiary sectors. The original industrial and entrepreneurial aspects have been maintained, but the Chauvin Arnoux Group's scope is now worldwide.
Its expertise is structured and promoted by four companies:
CHAUVIN ARNOUX: portable and handheld measuring instruments in very diverse sectors (testing and inspection, physical measurements, laboratory instrumentation, power and energy).
ENERDIS: fixed equipment for measurement, electric power grid supervision and power management and optimization systems. Relay manufacturing.
PYROCONTROLE: temperature sensors for industrial environments and control loops.
MANUMESURE: metrology and regulatory testing.
Every year, the Group invests 11% of its revenues in Research and Development of new products to highlight its expertise and respond more effectively to its customers' requests.
The Group is established all over the world through commercial and industrial subsidiaries and partner distributors. Each of our subsidiaries (USA, China, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, UK, Sweden and Lebanon) is responsible for marketing all the Group's products in its business area. In other countries, the Group is represented by the export sales teams of Chauvin Arnoux, Pyrocontrole and Enerdis, backed locally by a vast network of specialized distributors, thus ensuring that we remain close to our customers. Our industrial strategy is based on three production sites in France, manufacturing the sub-assemblies and products for the Chauvin Arnoux® and Enerdis® brands, and one site specialized in making Pyrocontrole's temperature sensors. In addition to these core production sites, there is also an industrial site in Italy producing industrial relays, as well as a site in the USA and a site in China to cater to the specific features of those markets.
This industrial coverage is an expression of the Group's determination to safeguard the availability and quality of its products and ensure a quicker response to the markets' expectations.
The Group's quality policy enables it to provide its customers with products that match its undertakings and comply with the international and national standards, particularly in the metrological and environmental sectors, while optimizing user safety.
This determination has been officialized with ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications and has led to the establishment of an "EcoConception" eco-design label.
